This morning I decided to look up where my wife and I need to vote tomorrow. We recently moved and had to call the county clerk to determine the correct polling place. Punching the address into Google maps, I noticed something odd. The area pointed to can't be place to vote. Instead, it's a small pasture where horses graze. I know because it's right down the road from my house. Here's the image with the arrow:
Trying this in Microsoft's Live Local map server, I got the following image. Notice how the pushpin is on the other side of Roy Cole Rd. This is correct. The area pointed to by the pushpin above is a firehall and the place where we will be voting. I'm not saying that Microsoft's maps are always more
I'm quite certain others can find many examples where Google Maps are more accurate but after this little test I just might be more likely to use Live Maps in the future.
thie site is good

ReplyDeleteTo no one’s surprise, the analyst found that Google Maps is the de facto leader in the space, while its rivals, Yahoo Maps, MapQuest, and Live Search Maps have slipped well behind Google. According to the analyst, much of Google’s success is due to the fact that its competitors simply don’t have what it takes to keep pace.

ReplyDeleteno way live maps is not even on the same page as google maps. I dont know why you even made this post!
ReplyDeleteReggie! I see no maps at all. Is it my shortcoming or Yours?
ReplyDeleteGoogle has released further details on the accuracy of Google Earth 5.0, which now traces the ocean floor and includes surface data from marine experts.
ReplyDeleteThe release follows speculation that Google Earth had helped in the discovery of a grid of 'streets' in the ocean thought to be the lost city of Atlantis.
So, I have worked with mostly the easier features of google maps but now want to do more. Basically My goal is to create a travel blog where my friends can comment on trips I post and see the trips using either google maps or earth. I'll work out the blog side of it and may have to recreate my map later. Currently I'm tinkering with the map and what I can do with it.
ReplyDeleteI like the 3D aspect of earth over maps but have seen the option of "view in earth" from maps and vis versa which never really works when I try it.
For the map, I want to have it "fly" from point to point, stopping at pictures (which, I've seen can be viewed upright like a billboard and would like to know how to do this).
Yahoo's straight-talking CEO Carol Bartz said Tuesday she prefers Google Maps to Yahoo Maps, and disclosed that she told Steve Ballmer that any future negotiations between Yahoo and Microsoft must remain strictly confidential.
ReplyDeleteA beta version of the new Yahoo Maps is out. Not only is it good looking, it’s feature rich!
ReplyDeleteIt’s built with Flash and Ajax (I believe) and has all the pretty map images that Google Maps has and it has the ability to zoom in and out and drag around without reloading the page. But wait there is more! Yahoo Maps Beta can add traffic information, speed and road construction details. It ties directly into Yahoo Local to show you where business’ are. Has a great mini map in the upper right so that you can zoom around much faster. Yahoo even enables you to rollover parts of directions and the road highlights on the map.
what a great info, thank you.
ReplyDeleteMicrosoft's Windows Live Search for Mobiles just went live last night, and we took it for a spin, comparing it to Google Maps for Mobile, which has traffic, maps local business searches and directions as well.
ReplyDeleteWindows Live Search runs on both J2ME (Java) phones and on Windows Mobile phones, whereas Google Maps only works on J2ME phones.
So which is better? Without a doubt, Microsoft's was the winner.
I've never used yahoo maps so I decided to just now give it a try. First of all, at first glance, it kicks Mapquest's ass. You can see the map, and you can zoom with the scroll wheel. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteFirst glance, it sucks compared to Google Maps because it scrolls in the center of the map, not where your cursor is. Also, it's a lot slower.
Didn't take much more time to dig into it.
Maps and MSN's Local Live stand 3rd and 4th. ... The growth for Google Maps is from traffic from the Google search engine. ... Google sends more of its own traffic to Google Maps than to Mapquest, a change that occurred last March. .... actually provides quicker routes and is more accurate with travel times. ...
ReplyDeleteThe Royal Geographical Society’s Annual Conference is underway and a couple of sessions have already made the news. Yesterday it was the research that has been done on where in the UK people are the happiest, and today the BBC News website has picked up on the comments made by the President of the British Cartographic Society. “Mary Spence said internet maps such as Google and Multimap were good for driving but left out crucial data people need to understand a landscape.”
ReplyDeleteLive Map Search more accurate than Google maps? Really? Well, thanks for the information webmaster! It was really a nice post! Thanks again! Just continue doing what you want! How can you say that Live Map Search more accurate than Google maps?
ReplyDeleteCan you explain your theme further? So that I can fully understand it well. Well, some ideas of your post is familiar and just keep up the good work for making a nice post.
ReplyDeleteThe fury in the UK over Google's effort to introduce its Street View feature to Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Maps continues to escalate. The latest twist: A privacy group has filed a formal complaint with the British Information Commissioner, asking that the service be shut down pending an investigation, because it says more than 200 people could be identified in the street-view images.
ReplyDeleteGoogle won't say how much of the GTA will be available on Street View, but neighbouring cities can be expected to be included as part of the "metropolitan area," according to Ms. Micner.
ReplyDeleteWith a view to compete with its rivals, Microsoft India has announced the launch of its map search services in India. With the help of Microsoft's Live Search Maps for India, the users will be able to acquire loads of information regarding geographical locations, places of interest and business listing.
ReplyDeleteDue to the inaccuracy of the data this map should be seen purely as an experiment. For example, the timestamps on the data seems to suggest that the outbreak spread from the USA to Mexico rather than the other way around.
ReplyDeleteYour blog came up when I searched for help. This was actually what I was looking for, and I am glad that I finally came here! Thks for sharing and keep up the good work
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff.
ReplyDeletethis is what i am looking for, thanks.
ReplyDeleteFor the longest time Google Maps and Windows Live Search have been clashing for title of best map software. In my experience both have been very useful tools in my everyday life.
ReplyDeleteow! live match serch looks good to search new things in this new future,so good scope man! ,i like this very much$$
ReplyDeleteSorry, privacy-minded U.K. citizens: Google Street View is expanding even further into your backyard. The company's photography-based map imaging service has defeated several lawsuits in England and is now looking to expand its coverage--to footpaths.
ReplyDeletelive mobile search is better than maps, because maps are not modified from a long time,& you get an old map & what you searching new things in that ,so you find nothing because there is no update in that map,so mobiles search is better than this in all aspects
ReplyDeleteThey should really known this blogengine so that they can use as an information.thanks for it.
ReplyDeletewell this proves even google earth can be full of mistakes sometimes,
ReplyDeleteGoogle are not updated for long. There are many places which have been established and the map shows old pictures. Live map search is better, as it shows the latest images.
ReplyDeletetrusting too much can also be harmful , even if you are trusting a brand name like Google, it can misguide you . the author was in the same condition after referring the Google maps.

While reading this article, i searched on google for "live map search". I tried to get directions for several destinations. It was a perfect search with guidelines to reach the destination. It is very much helpful to indians too, as live map search has been setup in India too.
ReplyDeleteare you saying that google maps were wrong or the person who gave you thee link was mistaken.. i am very confused about it ,i think the second one is more possoble.
ReplyDeletewow i think ,, google was always perfect ,, i still think that the info provided to the writer was wrong .
ReplyDeleteits still not going down ,, google wrong??
You know, you can now import KML files into Live Maps. KML stands for Keyhole Markup Language, and it was invented by Keyhole, the acquired startup behind Google Earth that is now part of Google. KML has become a standard for describing maps hosted on the Web.
ReplyDeleteWhat this means, though, is that Live Maps can now drink Google’s milkshake. Because all the customized maps that people have made and share on Google Maps can be grabbed as a KML file. So now Microsoft can benefit from all that work done by Google Map users by simply slurping all of those maps into Live Maps.
oh oh you are not saying that google is wrong are you , well i guess the person who said you to go and vote in that polling station was providing you the wrong info .
ReplyDeleteThe area pointed to can't be place to vote. Instead, it's a small pasture where horses graze. I know because it's right down the road from my house. Here's the image with the arrow:

ReplyDeleteI know, The best thing you can do when you have no knowledge of where to go or how to reach a place, is to consult these live maps, I have done that so many times. It makes your task easy.
